Foundation knowledge

Ammonia awareness course

Clear, memorable ammonia awareness training for anyone who may work at or visit a site using R717 industrial refrigeration.

R717 TRAINING

Practical and role-specific

Training built around real work.

People do not need to operate the plant to be affected by an ammonia release. This course gives non-specialists enough understanding to recognise warnings, follow site controls and respond safely without encouraging actions beyond their role.

WHAT PEOPLE LEARN

Useful capability

  • Recognise ammonia and understand why it is hazardous
  • Understand common exposure routes and health effects
  • Identify alarms, windsocks, exits and assembly points
  • Follow evacuation or shelter-in-place instructions
  • Report leaks and avoid unsafe intervention
DELIVERY

Matched to your site

Typically delivered from two to eight hours depending on role, site complexity and learning outcomes. Available on site, live facilitated or online, with site-specific content and knowledge checks.

Discuss your training needs
01

How long is an ammonia awareness course?

A basic session may be completed in around two hours. More detailed site-specific programs can extend to a full day where practical activities, emergency arrangements or assessment are included.

02

Who needs ammonia awareness training?

Anyone who may be exposed to the consequences of a release should receive information and training appropriate to their role, including non-refrigeration staff and contractors.

03

Does awareness training make someone competent to operate the plant?

No. Awareness training supports recognition and safe initial actions. Plant operation, isolation and high-risk tasks require additional plant-specific training, supervision and competency verification.

04

Can our emergency procedures be included?

Yes. Site alarms, evacuation routes, assembly areas, communication methods and shelter-in-place arrangements can be incorporated.
